TWO CONCEPTS

His ideas are about light, airy spaces that were infused with a sense of vibrancy and were designed to draw the community in.
- David Adjaye

In the 70's, I was interested in massive strong forms. Now I am more interested in the contract between those forms that give permanence and solidity, and something that gives them lightness and novelty.
- Teodoro Gonzalez De Leon (Deceased)

My final design has been deeply influenced by Adjaye's investigation of light and airy spaces to capture the attention of the viewer. The rectangular hanging structure encapsulates the airy nature of the station, companied by glass panels to further infuse a similar vibrancy of Adjaye's designs into the light rail stop, therefore attempting to attract the attention of the surrounding community.

The light rail stop design continues to depict Gonzalez De Leon's interest in forms which studies permanence and solidity whilst simultaneous creates lightness and novelty. The thick rectangular beam structure of the covering is mimetic of the permanence and solidity of building and structure., due to concrete's connection to the stability and security of a building. However the open nature of the structure and 'floating' image of the stop generates a public space which encourages community interaction and further provides a sense of lightness to the structure.
